how are you? - blog post - Peter's Box

HOW ARE YOU?

How are you? A river still?

Or waves that crash against your will?

A painted smile, a hollow tune,

Or storms that whisper to the moon?

How are you feeling—tell me true,

Is joy a fire burning through?

Or does the dusk within your chest

Hold echoes of the sun’s last rest?

Now, how are you? A tethered kite?

Or drifting leaves in endless flight?

Don’t just tell me you’re “okay,”

Let’s paint your heart in words today.

What’s the colour of your sky?

A golden dawn or night’s reply?

And what’s the weight upon your chest?

A feather’s touch or iron’s rest?

How are you, my friend, be real—

No need to lock the things you feel.

For when I ask you how you are,

Your truth will never leave a scar.
